Meditation and stillness

Do take advantage of the opportunity which now exists for private prayer at St James’s church, which is open from 8.00 am Monday-Thursday. Also note that besides the Wednesday morning Eucharist at St James (at 10.30 am), the evening Eucharist on Thursday at St James resumes on 15 September (at 7.30 pm).

Other opportunities include:

Christian Meditation three times a term at St ClementCome and explore silent prayer, how to find stillness, meditating on the Bible, and how to meditate on the ups and downs of daily life. There is a long tradition of Christian meditation that starts with Jesus’ time spent alone in the desert. Each session will help us be silent and still before God. Silent prayer is based on learning to trust that God does love and accept us just as we really are amidst all the ups and downs of daily life. Summer term dates: 7.30 pm on Mondays 23 April, 11 June and 2 July 2018 at St Clement.

Pentecost Quiet Morning A day of reflection in preparation for Pentecost at the Imperial College New Chaplaincy Multi-Faith Centre, 10 Princes Gardens, SW7 1NA: 10.00 am – 1.00 pm on Saturday 19 May 2018. Led by Rev’d Andrew Willson.

And why not investigate the resources on the Spirituality page of this website?

There are a number of online prayer resources. For instance, www.pray-as-you-go.org has a guided reflection for each day. After a few moments of calming music, we are led to hear a reading, and invited to consider how we might apply this to to our own lives. The short, contemplative exercise concludes as we offer the day to God. The same page also has an eight minute guided review for use in the evening. For those who wish to use the Church of England services of daily prayer, go to daily.commonworship.com/daily.cgi?today_mp=1 (morning) or http://daily.commonworship.com/daily.cgi?today_ep=1 (evening). These acts of worship are more word-based, but are easy to follow, including psalms, readings, canticles and prayers. Many of us find it difficult to establish a pattern of daily prayer, but there are many accessible online resources, attuned to the need we all have to find a few moments of peace with God.
