Taking Lent seriously

Would you like deepen your faith? If so, make the most of Lent:

Join a Lent discussion group: The York Course – ‘Build on the rock; faith, doubt and Jesus’ – is at 11.00 am at St James from 12 March – 9 April, straight after the Wednesday Eucharist.

Read a Lent book: Leaving Alexandria: A Memoir of Faith and Doubt, by Richard Holloway, RRP £.8.99. Come to discuss the book at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 8 April at the Vicarage .

Make a point of coming to church every Sunday.

Immerse yourself in the liturgy of Holy Week: Palm Sunday (13 April), Maundy Thursday and Good Friday take us on the journey through to Easter.

Attend the midweek Eucharist: 10.30 am at St James.

Attend a Lent day of reflection: 10.00 am to 3.30 pm at the Sion Centre for Dialogue and Encounter, 34 Chepstow Villas on Saturday 15 March (see our Spirituality page).

Use the daily prayer resources on the website: such as www.pray-as-you-go.org – see Services/Prayer.

Contribute to our Gambian appeal: to help fund a health centre, built by volunteers. For more information: http://bace-home.org. Envelopes will be available in church. Why not dedicate the money you save from abstaining from something to the Gambian project?

Traditional Lenten commitments include almsgiving, prayer and fasting or abstinence.
