Encountering Jesus in Mark

A study programme at 7.00 pm on Wednesdays at the Parish Office.
Mark’s gospel is the main source for much of the material in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Only after the Second Vatican Council (1962-5) and its reforms, and after the Revised Common Lectionary (1994), was Mark’s gospel used with frequency as a text for readings during services and given its own year in the Church’s three-year lectionary cycle. Mark certainly has a much more prominent place in the celebration of our services today than he did forty years ago, yet the particularities of his gospel often elude us. As we come to the end of the lectionary year of Mark, this course will examine this less-familiar text. We will work systematically through the gospel, and each session will be based on a set portion of the text:
unnamed

7 October (Chps 8.22-10) From Galilee to Jerusalem
21 October (Chps 11-13) Jerusalem
4 November (Chps 14-16) Execution and Resurrection
We will be using Meeting Jesus in Mark by Marcus Borg.
Participants should not feel obliged to attend every session. We would be happy to see you on Wednesdayevening and if you enjoy yourself you can continue with the course when you can!
We very much look forward to seeing you there!
