The PCC has not yet decided on our 2019 Lent Appeal, but some may be interested in attending this event about the London Diocesan Lent Appeal, to find out more about modern slavery.

Modern Slavery in London:  Diocese of London Lent Appeal

The 2019 Diocese of London Lent Appeal on Modern Slavery, builds on the work of the Clewer Initiative, part of the national church’s approach to eradicating Modern Slavery which was launched by Archbishop Justin in October 2017.
 
The aim of the evening is to understand more about what Slavery in London looks like today and to explore how we can be part of the solution to eradicate it from our capital – through actions and our financial donations.
 
The evening is open to all and will begin with refreshments, it will be introduced by The Bishop of London, The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Sarah Mullally.  
 
We will then hear about;
 
·       What Modern Slavery looks like in London today - Lysbeth Ford, from Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority who will speak about
·      A Theology of Liberation - Selina Stone of St Mellitus College
·      The signs to look out for in spotting Modern Slavery and what to do if you suspect it in your community.
·      Modern Slavery from a survivor’s perspective
·      The resources created for the Lent Appeal to assist you in engaging your church in addressing Modern Slavery.
 
 
You will have the opportunity to meet the five beneficiary charities of the Lent Appeal:

Ella's Home – working with women in London trafficked for Sexual Exploitation
Kalayaan - supporting migrant domestic workers in London who have been  subjected to forced labour or have been trafficked to the UK for domestic servitude.
Love 146 - supporting trafficked young people in London
Rise Project of The Children's Society - support for boys and young men aged 11-17 in London that have been trafficked.
Tamar- working with women in Westminster trafficked for Sexual Exploitation
 
You will also have the opportunity to connect with the Modern Slavery Project at the Eastern European Resource Centre which has just been established to provide specialist support to Polish and Romanian victims of Modern Slavery.
